1900-1979Sus origenes en el cine se situan dentro de la tarea de operador de camara y, despues, ayudante de direccion. Su carrera como director comienza realmente en 1936. Lesley Selander es uno de los grandes especialistas del western, con mas de cien peliculas a sus espaldas. Decir “uno de los grandes especialistas” no es lo mismo que decir “uno de los grandes nombres” y, en efecto, la trayectoria de Selander, en lo que a la calidad de sus peliculas se refiere, es irregular. Lo que, sin embargo, sorprende es que la valoracion media de sus westerns no es baja, lo que indica que el director poseia un especial instinto para el genero, que pone de manifiesto con una plastica mas que correcta y un buen manejo del tiempo de la narracion. В 1754-60 эти земли стали ареной сражений Войны с французами и индейцами [ French and Indian War]. В 1787 после победы американцев регион был включен в состав Северо-Западной Территории [ Northwest Territory]. Американцы разбили индейцев в ходе Битвы у поваленных деревьев [ Fallen Timbers, Battle of] (1794) и приобрели несколько фортов по условиям договора Джея [ Jay's Treaty]. В 1805 создана Территория Мичиган [Michigan Territory], временно оказавшаяся в руках англичан в ходе англо-американской войны 1812-14 [ War of 1812]. Основной приток переселенцев пришелся на 30-40-е гг. XIX в. и связан с завершением строительства канала Эри [ Erie Canal] (1825), прокладкой дорог, наличием свободных сельскохозяйственных земель, а также с открытием месторождений железной руды и меди. В 1835 была ратифицирована конституция штата [ state constitution], но вступление в Союз [ admission to the Union] затянулось до января 1837 из-за пограничного спора с Огайо. В Гражданской войне [ Civil War] участвовало 23 процента мужского населения штата (более 90 тыс. человек), около 14 тысяч из них погибло. Мичиган (районы городов Детройт, Дирборн [ Dearborn], Флинт, Понтиак [ Pontiac] и Лансинг) принято считать штатом автомобильной промышленности - здесь в 1903 на заводе Г. Форда [ Ford, Henry] было основано конвейерное производство. В 1926 компанией "Дженерал моторс" [ General Motors Corp.] был установлен экономический рекорд - она достигла объема продаж в миллиард долларов в год. "Великая депрессия" [ Great Depression] не только вызвала кризис в экономике, но и способствовала становлению в Мичигане профсоюзного движения. В 1935 был создан "Объединенный профсоюз рабочих автопромышленности" [ United Auto Workers]. В 1935-41 на автозаводах произошли крупные забастовки. С началом второй мировой войны заводы перешли на выпуск военной продукции. Штат выполнил самое большое число военных заказов. Большую роль стали играть торговля и сфера услуг. Экономика штата в послевоенные годы отличалась стабильностью и поступательным развитием. Однако спад автоиндустрии в 70-х гг. привел к тяжелому экономическому кризису, закончившемуся к середине 80-х гг. В Мичигане, некогда исключительно сельскохозяйственном штате, с 1940-х гг. наблюдается устойчивая тенденция к снижению роли сельского хозяйства, хотя объем производства в этой отрасли примерно соответствует среднему по стране. Большую роль играет выращивание овощей и фруктов. За последние сто лет крупные города стали местом концентрации афро-американцев [ Afro-Americans], что привело к росту расовых конфликтов. Их пик пришелся на 1967, когда в Детройте во время беспорядков погибли десятки человек. В настоящее время негры занимают многие высокие посты в администрации штата, власти прилагают усилия по улучшению условий жизни в крупных городах и диверсификации промышленности. В политической жизни вплоть до 1932 доминировали республиканцы, сейчас обе партии занимают примерно равное положение.
